Brand New Spartan 3 V2 Not Working Correctly

I’ve spent several hours trying to get a brand new Spartan 3 V2 to connect properly to Termite (I’ve also tried putty). I’ve tried all 3 mini USB cables I have (granted, they’re all old, because mini USB has been effectively phased out well over a decade ago - USB C would be nice; even micro USB is more ubiquitous). The 3d printed USB connector housing showed up cracked; looks like it’s too tight a fit to the board.

Anyway, I’ve wired the unit into the car. The wires are properly connected. I’m using the CAN output to feed an MS3x, and the green analog out to feed an Innovate gauge in the dashboard. I was trying to connect the Spartan to the laptop to change the analog out to match the gauge. After tons of troubleshooting, installing drivers (it would be nice if 14point7 actually provided a link to the correct driver; my laptop (windows 11) did not have the driver installed; even though it’s the same laptop I use for Tuner Studio) I can connect to the Spartan, but I can’t type anything in the dialog window. I might not even have the right driver, but who knows? No way to check. I have the same issue with putty, btw. The settings match what I could find in the documentation.

There is an LED in USB housing, but I can’t find any mention of it in any of the documentation. It blinks red occasionally through the plastic housing. I have no idea if that’s good, bad or irrelevant.

So I fired up the 02 sensor on the dyno to at least give me some reference point. (which happens to be an SLC Free 2 from 14point7 that just worked without any issues). Ironically, the Innovate gauge in the dashboard seems pretty close (even though it shouldn’t be) to the dyno’s o2.

I really didn’t expect this to be such a mess; we have a crew coming tomorrow for a dyno session and this will most likely not be working properly, which will make the day take a lot longer than it should. Frankly, there are a few issues that 14 point 7 should implement that would prevent a lot of frustration - put all the relevant documentation on the product page (it’s not all there - you need to go to two places to find it all (at least as far as I can tell, there could be more hiding somewhere else for all I know); and tbh, unless you’re beating your head against the wall like I am, you’d never find the second batch of docs and you wouldn’t have any way of knowing that they even exist at all), include driver downloads (these should also be on the product page) and please get rid of the ancient mini USB connector. Or at least include a cable that you know works.

In the meantime, how do I get Termite to work so I can actually change the settings?

BTW, I can make the LED flash by hitting return. And every so often, I hear the USB sound from the laptop. But no characters appear in the termite window; regardless what I type.

Customer contacted me. Somehow, I was able to solve the problem, I have no idea what the problem was and how it was solved.

To add more detail - I called Alan, and I had my laptop connected to the Spartan at the time so I could send him screenshots of my settings. Everything looked ok, so I asked him the dial into my laptop via google chrome remote desktop. He was immediately able type stuff into termite; prior to doing that, I was not able to type anything. Since then, it worked fine. Alan then was kind enough to setup the analog output for my innovate gauge. As noted above, neither Alan nor I know why it suddenly started working after the screen share.

Hopefully this helps someone in the future.
